This week’s post is about the must haves beauty products of the 90s. Let’s take a stroll down beauty junkie memory lane.

Did you know a few are still around and reinvented? Here is a few 90s beauty essentials you HAD to have.

Sun-In

A spray-in hair lightener that practically turned every girl’s hair orange instead of the perfect sun-kissed blonde like the girls in the commercials. A trip to the beach was hardly complete without it.

CK One Perfume

A unisex fragrance where it was known as the cool kid fragrance for an entire high school generation. A revolutionary product where you most likely made your significant other wear it too because that was the definition of 90s romance.

Lip Smacker Lip Balm

Lip balm that had subtle tints of mouth-watering scents that made each tube irresistible. It came in a variety of flavours such as tropical flavours, cotton candy, chocolate, Coca-Cola as well as Dr. Pepper which was the most favourite. I definitely remember having a few of this around my house.

MAC Lipglass

A lip gloss in a tube that gave lips the perfect sticky shine. 

Hard Candy Nail Polish

A nail polish brand that had the most vibrant shades you could find. It had a bonus matching ring to the nail polish with every purchase... that was usually too big.

Fashion Fridays! 90s Guys Fashion Trends

I know all we've discussed about are women's fashion in the 90s, so here I present to you, men's fashion of the 90s! We might see reoccurring trends from previous blog posts, let's find out!

1. Overalls with one strap down, this is inspired by the upbringing of "The Fresh Prince" as it made many appearances in the television series.

2. Middle Part bowl cuts

I know all we've discussed about are women's fashion in the 90s, so here I present to you, men's fashion of the 90s! We might see reoccurring trends from previous blog posts, let's find out!

3. Oakley's Sunglasses, I do remember many celebrities rocking that look with the backward snapback

4. The backward snapback, yep was right!

5. Short sleeved flannel tees, so here's the similarity with women and men's fashion! They both rocked the flannel in the 90s!

6. Bowling-inspired tops! Props to Chandler from "Friends" who rocked and probably made the bowling shirt a "thing" in the 90s! So far we've seen Rachel and Chandler being influential fashion icons in the 90s! Oh and what the heck! He's also rocking the backward snapback!

7. Who needs smart phones, when you can have pagers? Haha, would not mind exchanging my smart phone for a page for a day! Would be insightful I reckon!

8. Acrylic striped ski jumpers

9. Rayon shirts, if you were cool, you'd have two or three ready for that 'special date' or that 'special occasion'! They are apparently silky printed shirts made from synthetic fibres... Men are definitely more fashionable in this aspect hahaha.

10. Carpenter jeans, specifically made to have an extra loop in the waist for carpenters to place their hammers into it. This trend is similar to the one that's hitting the younger demographics, Timberland boots. Timberland boots are pretty much "Tradee boots" and have been made popular for no apparent reason. 

11. And... Yep! Joey (Friends) made it too! White crew necks under everything... Still is popular today!

Beauty Trends Tuesdays - Woman 90s Makeup Trends

Today’s post is all about woman’s makeup and cosmetic trends. Makeup looks from the ‘grunge look’ to neutral tones and no-makeup looks.

The early 1990’s makeup trend, ‘grunge look’, primarily consisted of dark red lipstick, slept-in, heavily-applied black eyeliner and black nail polish. Dark eye shadows and mascara were also used to keep the eyes looking dark. Grunge music was a strong influence in this makeup look due to its rising popularity in the early 90s. This style continued into 1994 but was getting out of style the year after. 

During mid 90s, neutral tones became desirable and woman had a broader colour palette with a wide variety of neutral, light pink and brown shades. For eye shadows, lighter shades on the lids and darker shades in the crease then the brow bone highlighted. Eyeliners were usually dark and only applied on the top lid. Matte lipsticks were also a trend that emerged where dark shades of red were worn for an evening look. 

Blue-frosted eye shadows became fashionable.

By 1997, lip gloss and sparkling, glittery makeup had come into style. It was called ‘Y2K makeup’ and consisted of facial glitter and lip gloss.

Plucking eyebrows until they were basically nonexistent was also huge in the 90s. Looking at brow trends of today makes me shudder at the look of those over-plucked eyebrows.

Beauty Trends Tuesdays - Men's 90s Hairstyle

Welcome back to some more beauty trends.

In this week’s beauty trends, we are taking a look back at a few most popular men’s hairstyles of the 90s.

Last week, I showed a few of the most popular woman’s 90s hairstyle. Now let’s hear it for the boys.

The Caesar Cut

It was popularized by George Clooney. The hairstyle was named after Julius Caesar where his images depicted him wearing that hairstyle in such manner. It’s a hairstyle with horizontally straight cut, short fringe.

Frosted Tips

Popular in the late 90s amongst every male star and boy band members. Hair was cut short then hairspray and gels were used to create spikes. The tips of the hair were bleached hence ‘frosted tips’.

 

Curtained Hairstyle

It was believed this form of hairstyle made men look astonishingly gorgeous and gave out a cool aura.

Hi-top Fade

Most youths belonging to Africa-America who were into the hip-hop and urban contemporary music scene had this haircut. This hairstyle is where the sides are cut off or kept short and the hair on top is made longer. 

Cornrows

This hairstyle was regarded as traditional African hairstyle; however, with the rise of the hip-hop culture in the 90s, cornrows became famous throughout the world.

Game Wednesdays - Battleships!

Hey there

Last Wednesday I did a review on a video game from the 90’s based on Super Mario game. This time we will venture into the games that is from the physical world.

While searching for ideas for a game, I remember watching a movie on television called Battleships. Yes the one with Liam Neeson in it!  So I thought why not have a review about the board game that was a hit (pun intended).

This game was really popular back during the early 90’s and still popular now you can say. It’s a type of game you would play on a rainy day or whenever you like. I remember playing this game a lot when I was a kid growing up.

Battleships is a two player game which consisted of a board and some ships to accompany you with to battle. The objective was to destroy all of the enemy ships on the sea board to win the game!. If you were lucky enough to hit the smaller size ships it would make the game so much easier.

Here was one of the electronic talking model for battleships made by Milton Bradley and released in 1989. 

The voice functions of this board game was quite memorable. I kind of enjoyed the sound effects when a missile had hit one of my enemy’s ships. 

 Did you remember a phrase that became popular from this game…? 

Pretty funny right!?

There is too many reference to this quote, just proves how popular this game was.

Beauty Trends Tuesdays - Woman's 90s Hairstyle

Hi guys!

So I'm in charge of the 90s beauty trend, so you'll see anything from 90s hairstyles to makeup and cosmetic trends.

Today's post will be about woman's hairstyles of the 90s. The 90s hairstyle offer great 
varieties where there are plenty of sophisticated and unique hairstyles.
Let's go back to the 90s era and reveal a few of the most popular hairstyles.

The Rachel

This hairstyle was the most famous 90s hairstyle made famous by Jennifer Aniston who played Rachel Green in the hit TV show Friends.

Butterfly Hair Clips

These hair accessories was pretty popular. The most popular style was creating a face-framing crown of butterflies on top of your head.

Feathered Bangs

Feathered bangs got its name as the bangs look like feather. These perky, fluffy bangs were all rage back then.

Mini Buns

This hairstyle was made famous by Gwen Stefani.


















Pixie Cut

The pixie cut is a timeless style. The styling of the 90s pixie cut was messy and chic.

Flashback Fridays - Tops

It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Frida-ay... Haha, just kidding!

It's Friday and you all know what that means! Today, we'll be talking about different types of tops that were most striking in the 90s! Can you recall any iconic style of tops that speculated around the 90s?

When I think back to the 90s, what automatically comes to mind is... Clueless and Friends (the T.V. series)

Game Wednesday - Super Mario

Hello there! 

If you've recognized the name of this character then you've probably played a game relating to Mario. I mean who doesn't know about this guy, he is seen everywhere in the media and has featured in most games.

Well, Mario is the icon for the game industry since the time around the 90’s until now. The 90’s was a good time for most games that had been released and had consisted of some great Mario game franchises. Let’s see there was Super Mario World, Super Mario Bros series 1, 2, 3 and some others. The list goes on…

For this blog post I’ll just stick with Super Mario on the Nintendo 64. Why? Because I had so many memories during my younger years with this game (oh the nostalgia).

Do you remember walking through paintings to reach to your next stage? I certainly did. For most of you who had played this game, would know that collecting stars was important. The more stars that you had meant you were able to venture into different worlds. That means more challenges, different courses, solving puzzles and collecting coins.

Mario is known for his abilities in his games like the fireball he shoots out from his palms of his hands. In the Super Mario 64 platform game however, there are certain items that enhances his skills. Skills like being able to fly using a special hat called the “Wing Cap”. I know it may sound weird but there was a stage where Mario is required to fly and roam around in a world.

Also do you remember this guy?

Yeah he’s the bad guy named “Bowser” kind of looks like a dragon but his actually a turtle!

Like the hero Mario is, he will again go and save the princess that has been captured by this villain.

Waving the flag for trance, we have the hit of Finnish DJ Darude. Thanks to a meme that has popped up recently this classic has been seared into the records of electronica history. As described in the arbiter of all things urban, urban dictionary’s top result describes it as “The name of every song in existence” as submitted by the aptly named user “Some Random White Guy With a Name”. A confusing and perhaps meaningless video accompanies an equally trivial but unexplainably addictive tune.
