Welcome to the very last segment of Fashion Fridays! Today I will be taking us back to the 90s, where it was all about bold, whacky and funky accessory trends which complemented the fashion apparel trends I have written about before!
The first trend and the most memorable to me, has got to be the butterfly clips, they took place of what bobby pins do today for children. But instead, adding extra "ooomph" with the added wings, (no not, red bull).
And to add to that trend, the creators of the butterfly clips thought they should give it a newer look and feel, this is what I call the butterfly clip 2.0, it’s bigger, better, brighter and realistic-er than ever!
Along with these, you’d always have your hair tied up with your scrunchie. That was the ultimate combo. On a side note, scrunchies were actually the only form of hair tie that would hold your hair together but not leave a dent in your hair after a long period of time. (My fellow ladies audiences would understand)
Next, is something that has most certainly came back and if you remember from my past posts, you may recognize this certain article. You’ve guessed it! (Hopefully) it’s the choker! Except the 90s were much circulated around having it “hippy” or “gothic/grunge” theme to it.
They became such a hit, that they too, were upgraded to choker 2.0 and 3.0. We later also see men rocking the male version of the choker, called a shell necklace. This is where the beach theme comes in.
Here’s one trend I’ve never heard of or have ever encountered, the hair mascara, like mascara for your eyelashes… But for your hair.. What do we think? Was this actually a “thing” of the 90s?
Body glitter, because you had to “shine bright like a diamond” at parties
